On October 11th, 2025, my school, SMP Santa Maria, carried out a program called Saint Mary’s Way, a program focused on social service and developing compassion toward others. Through this activity, we learned several values inspired by Mother Mary, such as obedience and trust in God, teaching through good example, offering sincere love and support, and helping each person grow according to their unique gifts. These values guided our activities and helped us understand the importance of caring for those around us.
When the groups for the program were formed, I was placed in a team of 14 students from three different classes. Our group decided to visit Panti Asuhan Cahaya Kasih, an orphanage located on Jalan Karya Mukti No. 132 in Babakan, Babakan Ciparay. We chose this place because we felt it was meaningful to share warmth and happiness with children who needed support and attention.
Before the visit, we received funds to buy essential items and small gifts. On October 8th, 2025, we went shopping for snacks, daily necessities, and presents for the children. We also prepared activities such as coloring sheets, Bible-character guessing games, and puzzles related to the life of Jesus. We worked together enthusiastically to ensure that everything was well-prepared and enjoyable for the children.
On the day of the visit, we were warmly welcomed by the children and the sisters who managed the orphanage. We began by introducing ourselves so the children could get to know us better. The atmosphere quickly became warm and cheerful, making us excited to begin the activities.
We started with a puzzle activity based on events from Jesus’ life, where the fastest group became the winner. After that, we continued with coloring, which turned out to be one of the children's favorite activities. Many of them even asked for extra sheets. Our final activity was a Bible-character guessing game, and the winners received feather flowers handmade by one of our group members. The children participated enthusiastically, and their laughter filled the room with joy.
From this experience, I learned how meaningful it is to share kindness with others. Spending time with the children taught me to appreciate what I have, be more empathetic, and understand the importance of simple acts of care. The Saint Mary’s Way program became an unforgettable experience that encouraged me to continue doing good whether at school, at home, or in the community.
